Welcome to the Annual report for SUMA 2022-23

On behalf of the SUMA Executive Board for 2022-24, I, Tony Chiramal, Secretary of SUMA, would like to present the Annual Report for 2022-23.

The new SUMA Executive Committee, led by President Dr. Pressanna Parackal, Vice President Sabu John, Secretary Tony Chiramal, Joint Secretary Sumi Raman, and Treasurer Soosi Abraham, and supported by various subcommittee leads, took over the leadership of SUMA on September 17th, 2022, from the previous Executive Committee led by President Nikhil Madathil, Vice President Sarita Anup, Secretary Tony Chiramal, Joint Secretary Tissa, and Treasurer James.

It was a very challenging task for the new committee as the world was still recovering from COVID-19, and socializing was getting back to normal piece by piece. We came back stronger as a community and had a successful Onam last year.

With the objective of making the community more active and learning from the Board of Directors (BOD), the committee always consulted the BOD for guidance and took valuable feedback in building a strong strategy to make community events better and stronger.

Bijo Karakatt (BOD) has been kind enough to walk through the new committee to the bylaws and rules for managing SUMA. We would like to really appreciate his guidance and all who have shared their experience and knowledge with the committee.

The new Committee introduced a couple of events and activities for the community which were very well received and participated in by the community. Since the takeover, we have participated in the Annual Diwali celebration with SA Beats performing on the Boat and taking part in the Rangoli competition and participation in Dances representing Kerala and other events.

Followed by Diwali, SUMA introduced a new tradition for Halloween to be customized with our own Malayalee version branded as “Malluween,” which was participated in by close to 30 participants and had a variety of talents impersonating the Malayalam actors and bringing them to our home in San Antonio.

The Annual Christmas celebration was another feather in the cap, with the grand success of wonderful carols recited by all the churches of our community and a lot more celebration lined up, concluding with a wonderful DJ dance.
